Bryan Duby Joins MSU Track and Field Staff

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Bryan Duby, 2005 Big Ten Conference Champion in the weight throw, was named the new graduate assistant track and field coach by Head Coach Tommy Barksdale this week.

Duby will focus on coaching the shot put, discus, javelin and hammer throw for the Eagles. He is Level 1 certified by the USATF and Level 2 certified in throws.

Duby graduated from Ohio State University with a double degree in criminology and sociology in the spring of 2005.

Duby is a three-year varsity letter winner in indoor and outdoor track at Ohio State. He was named co-captain for the 2005 indoor and outdoor season. During that season Duby was the Indoor Big Ten Conference Champion in the weight throw and was named to the Indoor First-Team All-Big Ten Team. He finished his career at OSU number two all-time in both the hammer throw and weight throw. He participated in two NCAA Championships and one USA Nationals Championships during his throwing career.

Duby has been the assistant varsity track and field coach at Loyola Academy College Preparatory School in Wilmette, Ill., for the past two years. While at Loyola Academy, he coached two Chicago Catholic League Conference Champions in shot put.

Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
