MSU Women's Golf In 10th After Cardinal Cupp Second Round

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.—The Morehead State women’s golf team is in 10th place after two rounds of the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cupp, which began Monday at Cardinal Club Golf Course. The Eagles shot a 626 (314-312) in the first 36 holes.

Freshman Marisa Kamelgarn leads the Eagles with a 147 (76-71) to tie for eighth place overall. Kamelgarn had the MSU low round of the day with a 71 in round two, courtesy of four birdies during the round.

Senior Darlene Bognot is in second place for MSU and tied for 40th overall with a 157 (80-77). Sophomore Emma Jonsson is tied for 56th overall and is third for the Eagles with a 160 (78-82). Junior Lynn Grunkemeyer and Paige Lausier rounded out the scoring for Morehead State. Grunkemeyer had a 164 (82-82) to tie for 69th and Lausier had a 165 (80-85).

The Eagles also had two players competing as individuals. Sophomore Emma Eksell is tied for 20th overall with a 151 (76-75) and Karolina Tunstig shot a 164 (82-82) to tie Grunkemeyer at 69th overall.

Host Louisville leads the event with a 575 (289-286). Eastern Kentucky is the other OVC school at the event. The Colonels are in 12th with a 633 (321-312).

The tournament will conclude Tuesday with an 8:15 shotgun start to a single, 18-hole round. Scores will be available live through Golfstat's LIVE SCORING page.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
