MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State women's tennis team collected 15 wins, including the back draw titles in three separate flights, last weekend at the Illinois State Redbird Roundup.
In flight A singles, freshman
Kayla Tuscany knocked off Bradley's Nicole Miller (6-4, 6-1) in the back draw finals. In flight B, junior
Lauren Delaney picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Emily Regenold of Bradley after defeating her teammate, freshman
Brooke Helms, in the semifinals.
In flight C,
Alix Lakow advanced to the back draw finals with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Ashley Breitenback of Butler. She fell 6-1, 7-5 in the finals.
Catherine Butts opened her tournament action with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kate Panawash of Butler in the quartefinals of flight D. She fell 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals, but returned to win a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 decision over Jessica Buterbaugh of Bradley in the third place match.
In doubles play,
Madeleinne Antero and Tuscany opened with a 8-1 drubbing of Butler duo Breitenback/Ashley Thompson before faltering in the semifinals. They went on, however, to win twice more and take the back draw A consolation title.
Alexandra Rydberg and Butts won 8-4 over Kahfi King/Valerie Vinluan of Butler in the opening round before dropping a tiebreaker 9-8 in the semifinals. Antero and Lakow won a 8-6 match in the semifinals of the doubles consolation and then fall in the finals.
The Eagles travel to Evansville, Ind., on Sept. 18-19 for the Pueple Aces Fall Invitational.
