Former Eagle Teater Wins First Nationwide Tour Event

SANDY, Utah – Former Morehead State University men’s golfer Josh Teater won his first Nationwide Tour event Sunday, carding a 20-under at Willow Creek Country Club.

Teater finished with a 264 (65-67-64-68) in the four-round tournament. He held off a final-round charge by Tyler Aldridge, who shot a five-under to slide into second. He had three eagles and 23 birdies. He earned a purse of $99,000.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Teater helped the Eagles claim the 1999 OVC Men’s Golf Championship with an All-Tournament performance. Teater turned pro after finishing his MSU career in 2001. He is having his best pro season in 2009, having made 13 cuts, finishing in the top 25 eight times and the top 10 three times. He ranks eighth on the Nationwide Tour money list with $238,200 in 21 events played.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
