MOREHEAD, Ky. - Rowan County Senior High School senior softball student-athlete Amber Riddle, who has signed a national letter of intent to join the Morehead State softball program in the Fall, has been named Kentucky's Miss Softball by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association. Riddle will receive her award at the East-West All-Star series on June 13 at the University of Kentucky softball complex. She also won the home run derby at the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star Series.
Riddle had a .560 batting average with 19 home runs and 75 RBI for the Lady Vikings. Her 19 homers tied her own state single season record she set as a junior in 2008.
Her career also saw her hit 57 home runs, which completely shattered the state career record. She entered her senior year with 38 career round-trippers, and that figure had already set the state mark before her final season.
She won the home run derby and helped the Kentucky All-Stars sweep the Tennessee All-Stars at the Fourth Annual Kentucky-Tennessee Fastpitch Series June 25 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Riddle defeated Alice O'Brien (Riverdale High School - Murfreesboro) in the derby finals. The Kentucky All-Stars won the best-of-three series by winning the first two games, 8-3 and 5-4.
Another interesting MSU connection with the series is that Jim McAlister was the state director for the games. McAlister, who is the sports editor at the Corbin Times Journal, is a 1979 Morehead State University graduate.
