MSU Rifle Team In Second After First Day Of Competition At OVC Championships

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Morehead State rifle finished the first day of competition at the Ohio Valley Conference rifle championships with a score of 2,259 in smallbore. Jacksonville State sits atop the standings with a score of 2,304 and the University of Tennessee at Martin is in third with 2,253 points.

Elizabeth Lyon leads the Eagles with a score of 570, Shawn Holley and Kevin Mulligan posted a score of 566 each and Nicole Heitmeyer rounded out the scoring with a total of 557.

MSU will look to improve tomorrow in the air rifle competition.

Ty Proffitt

Men's Basketball

Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State.

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech.

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts. He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Brooke Helms

Women's Tennis

Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins.

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles. Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne, winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
