Former Eagle Golfer Teater Finishes Second At PGA Event

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Former Morehead State University men’s golfer Josh Teater carded an 18-under 266 to finish second in the PGA’s Nationwide Tour Christmas in October event Sunday. Teater finished just two strokes behind medalist Michael Sim, who won the event at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate with a 264.

Teater finished with a $67,500 purse. He carded a 67-70-63-66 in the four-round tournament. He had 25 holes under par, including 24 birdies and one first-round eagle.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Teater helped the Eagles claim the 1999 OVC Men’s Golf Championship with an All-Tournament performance. Teater turned pro after finishing his MSU career in 2001. He is having his best pro season in 2009, having made 11 cuts, finishing in the top 25 six times and the top 10 twice. He ranks 25th on the Nationwide Tour money list with $127,500 in 18 events played.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
