Eagle Women's Track And Cross Country Adds Four

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State women's cross country and track teams announced four signees for the fall. Natalie Norman (Dryridge, Ky./Grant Co. HS), Holly Mandzak (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro HS), Kate Bomar (Scottsville, Ky./Allen Co. HS), and Ashley Molitor (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) will be competing for MSU in 2009-2010.


Norman was the Kentucky Class AAA state runner-up in 800m and she placed 32nd at Kentucky Class AAA state cross country meet in 2009.  Her personal record in the 5k is 20:05, in the 800 meter is 2:15, and the 400m is 1:01.

 

Mandzak's personal record in the 5k is 19:40, in the 800 meter her best was 2:28, in the  

1,600 meter it was 5:35, and her best in the 3,200 meter was 12:21.

 

Bomar placed 29th at Kentucky Class AA state cross country meet, and she is a member of the AA state fourth place 4x200 meter relay team. Molitor placed sixth at AA state meet in the shot put. Her personal best in that sport is 32'6". She set a personal best in the 400 meter of 1:00.76, 27.4 in the 200 meter, and 2:47 in the 800 meter.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
