Six Eagles Set Personal Records At Miami Invite Track Meet

OXFORD, Ohio - Morehead State Freshman JT Stone was one of four members of the MSU men's track and field team to set a personal record at the Miami Invitational Saturday in Oxford, Ohio. Stone finished seventh in the men's shot put with a throw of 47 feet 2.25 inches. Two women's student-athletes also set personal best marks.

 

Sophomore Morgan Sloas finished sixth in the men's 100 meter dash with a personal-best finish of 11.35 seconds. Jon Brown was the third Eagle to set a personal record with a 41 foot 4.5 inch total in the men's triple-jump. Brown finished sixth in the competition.

Senior Ryan Hudson set his personal best in the men's 5K with a time of 15 minutes 28 seconds.

In the men's 4x400 meter relay the team of Sloas, Pete Negron, Josh Harris, and Ron Duncan finished eighth in 3:31.24.

Morehead State junior Alexis King and freshman Ruth Millard each set a personal record for the women's squad. King's time of 18:25 in the women's 5,000 meter was a new personal-best.

Millard's personal-best of 19:18 also came in the women's 5K. In the women's triple-jump Brittany Brown finished ninth with a distance of 32 feet 06.25 inches.
MSU will continue the 2009 campaign Friday April 17, at the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational.

Bree Massie posted a solid 12th place finish in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 13.16 seconds.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
