Andrew Deeds Named to Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State rookie third baseman Andrew Deeds (Louisville, Ky.) has been honored on the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team, presented by Collegiate Baseball.

Deeds, who was one of five Ohio Valley Conference first-year student-athletes named Freshmen All-Americans, was also honored on the OVC All-Freshman Team in 2009.

He finished the year ranked tied for second on the team with a .366 batting average. He totaled 60 hits, scored 38 times, slapped seven doubles, legged out three triples, and circled the bases six times via home runs. He also led the Eagles by going 14-of-17 in stolen bases.

Deeds added 37 RBI and posted a .555 slugging percentage.

Ty Proffitt
Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
