Eagle Women Honor Seniors, Men Look To Clinch Spot In Conference Tourney

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State women's tennis team will honor seniors Heather Butt and Meg Rozboril tomorrow (April 10) as the Eagles host Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay in a tennis doubleheader. The Eagle men will guarantee a spot in the six-team OVC tournament by defeating the Governors. The men will face APSU at 10 a.m. with the women following.

The MSU men's team will look to make the tournament for the first time since 2005 and for the first time under head coach Kevin Fulton.

 

Senior Heather Butt is 13-6 overall this season and 6-2 in the conference. Her current career singles record at MSU 35-41. Fellow senior Meg Rozboril is 8-11 overall this season and 1-6 in the OVC. Her career singles record at MSU heading into tomorrow's match is 13-23.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
