Mens Tennis Falls In OVC Tournament To Murray State

PADUCHA, Ky. - The Morehead State men's tennis team's season came to a close Friday afternoon as MSU fell to Murray State 4-2 in the first-round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. First-Team All-OVC junior Greg Anderson and Morehead State freshman Jason Wolfson each earned a singles win.

Anderson's win came at No. 2 singles when he defeated Murray State's Luka Milicevic 6-2, 6-1.

 

Wolfson defeated Jose Berado 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles match. He also teamed with Dusan Milovanovic to earn an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

 

Murray State's Ben Clos defeated Milovanovic 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Racer Renaldo Domoney defeated Eagle Bradley Bryan 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 match, and Jadir Semensin defeated MSU's Nathan Blum 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 match to clinch the win.

 

Morehead State finished the season with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-4 conference mark. Murray State advances to face No. 1 seed Eastern Kentucky in the OVC semi-finals Saturday April, 18.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
