Greg Anderson Named First-Team All-Conference

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State junior Greg Anderson was named First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference for men's tennis. Anderson went 10-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play in men's singles this season. In doubles he posted a 7-5 overall record. The MSU men's tennis team posted a 9-6 overall record, an even 4-4 conference mark, and earned a spot in the OVC tournament where they will face Murray State on Friday, April, 17.

"It is nice to see the coaches recognize the hard work Greg put in to return after missing a year and a half due to injury," said MSU head coach Kevin Fulton.

 

Anderson was joined on the First-Team All-Conference team by Jacksonville State junior Eduardo Saratt, seniors Bernardo Bachino and Scott Robertson, Tennessee Tech sophomore Dean O'Brien and Eastern Kentucky sophomore Alex Das Izquierdo.

 

O'Brien was named Player of the Year by the conference coaches, TTU rookie Justin Kirstein, earned Freshman of the Year honors, and Rob Oertel of Eastern Kentucky and JSU skipper Steve Bailey were named co-Coaches of the Year.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
