Eagle Men Clinch Spot In OVC Tournament

MOREHEAD, Ky. - For the first time in four seasons the Morehead State men's tennis team will make an appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament as they defeated Austin Peay 6-1 Friday night in the home finale. Junior Dusan Milovanovic clinched the tournament berth and the win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Leonardo Locatelli in No. 1 singles.



"I am very proud of our guys' effort tonight," said MSU coach Kevin Fulton. "I'm looking forward to the conference tournament."

 

Greg Anderson took a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the No. 2 singles match, Bradley Bryan was victorious at No. 3 singles, and Jason Wolfson rounded out the MSU singles wins with an 8-5 win at No. 4.

 

In doubles the MSU tandem of Bryan and Charles Hodge defeated Francisco La Puente and Renan Bezerra 8-5 in the No. 2 slot.

 

With the win MSU improves to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the OVC.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
