Wes McDermott Named to the AP All-American Team

Morehead, Ky. – Morehead State football player Wes McDermott was named Associated Press All-American third-team on Wednesday morning.

McDermott finished the season with 109 total tackles and was ranked 26th in the nation in tackles per game at (9.9). He also finished tied for 10th nationally in tackles-for-loss per game at 1.50. McDermott led a Morehead State defense that finished first in the nation in tackles-for-loss per game at 9.86. The Eagles finished seventh in the nation in total defense at 266.27 yards allowed per game and only allowed 72.5 yards per game on the ground which was good for fourth in the nation.

McDermott finished his career in the top five of MSU’s career tackles list at 316 total tackles. McDermott notched 48 tackles for loss in his career which puts him 19th in FCS history and he averaged 1.09 tackles-for-loss throughout his career which puts him tied for 24th all-time in the FCS.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
