PINEHURST, N.C.—Morehead State women’s golf shot its lowest score of the fall season to place third after the first round in the Pinehurst Challenge. The Eagles shot a 298, just two strokes behind second-place Western Carolina and seven strokes off the leader, host College of Charleston. The two-round tournament is being played at the 6,004-yard, par 72 Pinehurst #6.
Senior Darlene Bognot carded par to tie for fourth overall and is just two strokes out of first place. Bognot is tied with three other players for fourth. Marisa Kamelgarn, MSU's talented freshman, is tied for eighth at 73, one stroke out of fourth. Kamelgarn is gunning for her fifth straight top-ten finish to sweep the fall season.
Sophomore Emma Jonsson is tied for 20th overall with a 76 and junior Paige Lausier is tied for 27th with a 77. Sophomore Emma Eksell is tied for 51st overall with an 82.
Eastern Kentucky (fourth-304) and Jacksonville State (T-Sixth-308) are the other Ohio Valley Conference teams at the event.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
