MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State volleyball placed four players on the All-Ohio Valley Conference teams as announced by the league this week. Freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger was named the Freshman of the Year and All-Newcomer, while Emma Keough and Kaitlin Craven were named First-team. Ellie Roberson also earned All-Newcomer status.
Gruenschlaeger led the OVC and currently ranks 17th in NCAA Division I with 150 total blocks and 127 block assists. She is the top freshman blocker in the nation and recently broke the MSU season record for block assists. She also compiled 193 kills and hit .239 this season.
Keough finished the regular season as the league’s top hitter with a .358 attack percentage against other OVC schools and a .307 overall hitting percentage. She also ranked second in the conference with 120 total blocks and 80 blocks in league action. In her last five matches, she has had double figure kills and hit better than .400.
Craven ranked seventh in the league with 345 kills (3.17/set) and also ranked second on the team with 278 digs and 45 blocks. She hit .204 and posted 31 aces.
Roberson missed several matches but still managed to rank second on the team with 2.6 kills per set. She also added 34 blocks. Roberson posted 12 double digit kill matches.
Austin Peay senior Stephanie Champine is the OVC Player of the Year, Murray State sophomore Kayleah Sauer is the Defensive Player of the Year, and Jacksonville State’s Rick Nold is the Coach of the Year.
The Eagles travel to Jacksonville, Ala., this week for the OVC Tournament. MSU is the number three seed and will face sixth-seeded Eastern Kentucky Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT.
