MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State men’s basketball coach
Donnie Tyndall has announced the signing of five prospects for the 2010-11 season.
The five commitments include:
• P.J. Meyers (5-7, 165 lbs., G, Augusta, Ga. – Chattanooga State Community College)
• Shannon Williams (6-8, 225 lbs., F, Detroit, MI – Cass Tech High School)
• Arthur McMillan (6-5, 220 lbs., F, Nashville, TN – Hillsboro High School)
• Robert Wade (6-7, 210 lbs., F, Nashville, TN – Maplewood High School)
• Kevin Gray (6-1, 180 lbs., G, Reynoldsburg, OH – Reynoldsburg High School)
Meyers averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, five assists and three steals as a freshman at Chattanooga State Community College. He was named First Team All-Region, while leading his team to a 22-5 record. Meyers is a preseason Junior College All-American and is currently averaging 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Williams, an Honor Roll student, was All-State Honorable Mention as a junior, first team All-City League three years running and a four year starter. He helped lead coach Dave Dixon’s Cass Tech High School to a 14-7 record while averaging nine points and 10 rebounds as a junior.
“Shannon is a tremendous team player who plays with aggressiveness and toughness. He’ll bring an ability to rebound the ball and score inside to the Eagles,” said Dixon.
McMillan averaged 19 points and six rebounds as a junior for coach Rodney Thweatt at Hillsboro High School, while helping lead them to an 18-11 record.
“Arthur is the best offensive player that I have ever coached in my 10 years as a coach,” said Thweatt.
As a junior, McMillan was All-District and All-Region. When asked how he feels about his decision, Arthur said, “I am proud to be an Eagle and part of the Morehead State family. I am excited to play for coach Tyndall and become the best player I can be.”
Wade is a Tennessee All-Region selection that averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds for coach Ty Wilson at Maplewood High School.
“I am excited to be part of MSU basketball and compete for championships throughout my four years of college,” Wade said.
Wilson added, “Robert has tremendous upside and I really think Morehead State got a steal in him.”
Gray averaged 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, and three assists as a junior at Reynoldsburg High School. His coach, Chris Rider said, “Kevin Gray is a winner. He’s a good player on both ends of the floor and makes everyone around him better.” He was first team All-League in 2008-09.
“I am very excited about this recruiting class,” Tyndall said. “They are all good players and really address some of the needs of our team. P.J. gives us a strong, quick point guard that can get inside defenses and make teammates better. He’s also a very good defender. Shannon, Arthur and Robert are all big, strong posts that are athletic and will fit our style of play because of their versatility. They will bring added toughness and rebounding ability to our frontline. Kevin will allow us to really stretch defenses because of his ability to shoot the ball with range. From top to bottom, this is the best recruiting class in my four years here at Morehead State.”
