Eagle Volleyball Will Face Eastern Kentucky in OVC Tournament Opening Round Thursday

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State volleyball team has claimed the number three seed for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and will face in-state rival Eastern Kentucky - the sixth seed - in the first round Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT in Jacksonville, Ala.

Fourth seed Muray State will face fifth seeded Tennessee Tech in the other first round matchup. An Eagle win on Thursday will pit MSU against second seed Austin Peay Friday night at 8 p.m. EDT.

Morehead State enters the tournament 19-10 overall and finished 11-6 in the league. The league will announce its all-conference teams Wednesday evening on the eve of the opening round.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
