Eagle Cross Country races at NCAA Southeast Regional.

Louisville, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action today in Louisville Ky., at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship. The Eagle men finished the longer 10,000 meter course in 30th place out of 35 teams and the Eagle women finished the longer 6,000 meter course in 35th place out of 35 teams.

Individually for the Eagle men Josh Wakeman had a good showing. Wakeman finished in 87th place out of 231 runners with a time of 32:45.93.

Leading the way for the Eagle women today was freshman Holly Mandzak who finished in a time of 24:36.06.

On the men’s side the Tribe of William and Mary took first place with 49 points. In second and third place were the North Carolina State Wolfpack and the Louisville Cardinals with 99 and 121 points respectively. Other OVC schools in the race were EKU who finished in seventh place and Murray State who finished in 35th place.

On the women’s side first place went to the Duke Bluedevils with 69 points. In second place was the Cavilers of Virginia with 113 points and in third place were the North Carolina State Wolfpack with 135 points. The other two OVC schools competing were EKU with a 10th place finish and Murray State with a 26th place finish.

This race concludes the men’s and women’s 2009 cross country season. The Eagle runners will now get ready for the track and field season in the spring. The Eagles first track and field meet will be March 20, 2010 at the University of Cincinnati.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
