Volleyball Concludes Regular Season at Home; Senior Day Set for Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State volleyball team will conclude the 2009 regular season at home this weekend when it hosts Tennessee Tech Friday at 7 p.m. and Jacksonville State Saturday at 5 p.m. The Eagles will honor senior libero Kristina Schoo, fourth-year defensive specialist Lindsey Ruddell, athletic trainer Shanteisha Pruitt and graduate assistant coach Kelsey Cronin before Saturday's match.

Morehead State has secured a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. The event will be held at Jacksonville State as the Gamecocks have already clinched the top spot and are looking to finish the OVC season undefeated at 18-0. MSU is 10-5 in the league, and with two wins, the Eagles can clinch their fourth straight 20-win season.

Tennessee Tech enters the weekend at 10-14 overall and 9-6 in the OVC. The Golden Eagles need only one win to secure a tournament berth. Junior Leah Meffert, who was the 2008 OVC Player of the Year, leads TTU with 3.67 kills per set. Katie Kenline averages 4.9 digs per set. TTU defeated MSU 3-1 in Cookeville, Tenn., on Oct. 10.

Jacksonville State is 16-0 in the league and 23-5 overall. The enter the weekend on a 17-match winning streak, including two in the last week that they won despite being down 2-0. Brittney Whitten leads the Gamecocks with 3.2 kills per set. As a team, JSU averages 17 digs per set.

Schoo and the Eagles are coming off a 3-2 loss at Southeast Missouri last Friday. Schoo will conclude her home career needing only nine more digs to move into third place on the OVC career list. She also will move onto the MSU career list for sets played this weekend. Freshman Annie Gruensclaeger has a chance to break the MSU season record for block assists this weekend as well.

A win Friday will secure third place for MSU in the upcoming OVC Tournament.
