MSU Basketball To Appear On ESPNU Four Times During The 2009-10 Season

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Morehead State basketball will appear on ESPNU four times in 2009-10 during the regular season the Ohio Valley Conference announced Thursday.

Three Eagle men's basketball games will be carried by ESPNU, beginning with the MSU regular season opener at Kentucky on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. The Eagles kick off 2010 with a Jan. 2 women's-men's doubleheader on the network at home versus Austin Peay. Morehead State's away game at Eastern Illinois will also be shown on ESPNU.

The OVC schedule includes 13 total games that will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU during the year. The The OVC Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship game will also air on ESPN2. The OVC Tournament semifinals (which will air on ESPNU) and finals will be held at the Sommet Center in Nashville on March 5-6.

ESPNU launched on March 4, 2005 with the Southeast Missouri State/Eastern Kentucky OVC Tournament semifinal contest being the first event aired live on the network. The ESPNU schedule features more than 550 live events (regular-season and championships) annually. Action includes a variety of top football and men’s and women’s basketball mixed with baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, ice hockey, wrestling and more. ESPNU also offers comprehensive studio programming, such as SportsCenterU and simulcasts of ESPN Radio’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd, replays of ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Regional Television games, plus specials and more.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
