Eagle Men's and Women's Cross Country to Compete in OVC Championships
Wakeman and King
Morehead, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be in action on Halloween at the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Oct. 31 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Vaughn’s Gap Course at Percy Warner Park. The men’s 8K race will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the women’s 5K race to follow at 10 a.m. CT.

The Eagle men have competed in four meets this year entering Saturday’s race. Their best finish as a team was a second place finish at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic, which is at the same course they are running for this OVC championship race. Thus far this season the Eagle men have been led by James Bowens and Josh Wakeman. Bowen’s best finish came at the Commodore Classic, crossing the line in eighth place. Wakeman’s best finish for MSU was an 11th place finish at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, NC. Matt Dotson and Mike Settles have also done well for the Eagles this year. Jack Shrader, Brian Knight, Jeffrey Covington, and Patrick Fouch have also run for MSU this season. Morehead State was picked fourth in the OVC preseason poll, and MSU is the last school besides EKU or EIU to claim an OVC Championship (1995).

The Eagle women have also competed in four meets entering the race on Saturday. Alexis King has led the Eagle women finishing first on the team in three of four meets. Her best finish this season was 25th earlier this season at Dayton. Ruth Millard and Liz Braunwart have raced well for the woman as well. Holly Mandzak, Kate Bomar, Natalie Norman have also competed for the Eagle woman this season. Morehead State was sixth at last year’s OVC Championship, and Alexis King was 21st in that race to lead the Eagles.
