MOREHEAD, Ky. - After scoring the game-winning goal in Sunday’s 1-0 overtime victory over Eastern Illinois, sophomore
Stephanie Gildehaus has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Gildehaus headed in the game-winner after she rose to connect with a ball
Sarah Phillip and
Devan Jordan headed on after a
Bethany Davidson corner kick in the 98th minute. The goal was the first of Gildehaus’s career. The Louisville native had moved to defense at the start of the second half and played there the rest of the game. She was part of an Eagle defense that allowed only 2 shots in the second half and overtime.
The Eagle victory clinched at least a share of the OVC regular season title. It is the first regular season title in program history. MSU has also earned the right to host the OVC tournament November 5-6, 8 at Jayne Stadium.
This is the fourth straight week an Eagle soccer player has earned a weekly conference award. Last week, both Phillip (Offensive) and
Brittany Kiracofe (Defensive) were honored, while two weeks ago goalkeeper
Lily Meisner was honored for the second time this season.
Lauren Seebach (Defensive) was honored three weeks ago.
MSU will begin its push for an OVC tournament crown on Friday November 6 after earning a first-round bye. The championship will be held Sunday November 8.
