Eagle Baseball Takes Field for Annual "Blood Bowl"

Morehead, Ky. – The Morehead State baseball team will start a five game series called “The Blood Bowl”, it’s for good cause however, the losing team of the series will be donating their blood to the Kentucky Blood Center.

The first game will be held tonight at 6 pm. at Sonny Allen Field and will feature the Morehead State baseball team who will be split up into two inter-squads. One squad will be managed by Dillon Lawson and the other club’s manager will be CJ Wamsley.

The “The Blood Bowl” will continue Wednesday and Thursday of this week, with both of those games also starting at 6 p.m. The final two games of the series are T.B.A.

Head Coach Jay Sorg’s baseball team is coming off a 20 win season last year that included a 12-10 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. The league record placed the Eagles third in the final conference standings. The Eagles return their top ten hitters from last year’s squad and three starting pitchers.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
