MOREHEAD, Ky. - Bethany Davidson headed in a long pass from
Micaela Hornstein in the 79th minute to level the contest and neither Morehead State nor Southeast Missouri State could find the net in the remaining regulation or overtimes as the two squads battled to a 1-1 draw Friday night. MSU got off to a slow start but would go on to dominate possession in the second half. The Eagles could only manage to level the game and were forced to settle with a draw.
A poor clearance allowed the first scoring opportunity of the game has SEMO’s Vanessa Hart collected a loose ball and fired a shot just inside the right post from 26 yards out in the 16th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Hart.
The Eagles began to control the play after the opening score but could not solve Redhawk goalkeeper Kristen Starkey and trailed 1-0 going into halftime. MSU fired four shots in the half, forcing Starkey to make 2 saves. SEMO had three attempts at net, all missing the target but the Hart goal.
Morehead State continued to control play throughout the second half and finally found the equalizer they were looking for in the 79th minute. Hornstein collected a clearance and immediately sent a long pass back up the center of the pitch. Davidson successfully slipped behind the defense and gave the Hornstein pass just enough of a nudge to the right of the penalty kick spot to deflect it pass a charging Starkey. It was the third goal of the season for Davidson and Hornstein’s first career assist and point.
MSU continued to apply pressure down the stretch and through both overtime periods, earning 3 corner kicks as well as numerous direct free kicks and deep throw-ins in the games waning minutes. In the second half and overtimes the Eagles outshot the visiting Redhawks by a tally of 11-2 but could not find the game-winner.

MSU celebrated Senior Night Friday night as Lindsay Stefanini, Bethany Davidson, Lauren Seebach, and Bridget Gomillion played their second to last regular season home game. Head Coach Warren Lipka thought Senior Night may have played a role in the Eagles slow start but was happier with his team’s second half effort.
“I think Senior Night is an emotional night and that weight got to us. I thought we played much better in the second half, but give credit to SEMO, they played really well,” said Lipka
The tie earns each team a point in the OVC Standings as MSU (7-6-4, 4-0-3) now has 15 points and remains in first place. SEMO (7-5-3, 2-1-3) now holds nine points. The Eagles conclude the regular season on Sunday when they battle Eastern Illinois at Jayne Stadium at 1 p.m. A Morehead State victory over the Panthers will clinch at least a share of the regular season OVC title and the right to host the OVC tournament.
