MOREHEAD, Ky. – Two Morehead State soccer players were honored with Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards after helping the Eagles defeat Murray State and UT Martin over the weekend.
Sarah Phillip was named Offensive Player of the Week while
Brittany Kiracofe was named Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Kiracofe was instrumental in Friday afternoon’s 2-1 victory over Murray State. The sophomore defender opened the scoring in the 10th minute when she powered home a volley off a corner kick from six yards out. It was the first goal of the season for Kiracofe. The Ottawa, Ohio native then assisted on
Erin Adams game-winner just before halftime. Kiracofe’s three points was a single game career-high.
Phillip picked up where Kiracofe left off in Sunday’s match versus UT Martin. The Eagles found themselves in a 2-0 hole late in the contest when Phillip found the net twice in a span of nine minutes to spark a remarkable MSU comeback victory. Phillip tipped in a corner kick to score the Eagles first goal, and the first of her career, in the 75th minute. Then the sophomore midfielder pounced on a loose rebound and buried her second goal of the match in the 84th minute.
Lauren Seebach would score the game-winner a few minutes later to clinch a 3-2 Eagle victory.
The two victories over the weekend vaulted MSU into first place in the OVC standings with 14 points, two points ahead of UT Martin.
MSU will be back in action with a pair of home contests this weekend, the final two games of the regular season schedule. The Eagles will battle Southeast Missouri State Friday night at 7 p.m. and take on Eastern Illinois Sunday at 1 p.m. Friday night will also serve as Senior Night and seniors Lauren Seebach,
