BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Morehead State men's tennis team closed out the season Saturday against the No. 66 ranked Blazers of UAB. Despite a tough effort, the Eagles fell to UAB 7-0.

Against Austin Peay, Greg Johnstone posted a 7-6, 6-4 win at No.1 singles over Lucas De Brito. Johnstone and Bradley Bryan teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over De Brito and Leandro Zenklusen.

Dusan Milovanovic, Charles Williams, and Lovell Medcalf all posted singles wins against the Governors.

On Sunday the Eagles fought hard but fell to UT-Martin 4-3.

Charles Williams took the first set from Shane Collins in the No. 5 match but Collins rebounded to take the next two sets for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. At the No. 6 match Lovell Medcalf fell to Alex Lambropoulos 6-3, 6-2.

The Eagles return to conference play this Saturday on the road against Austin Peay.

"We really stepped up today," said MSU coach Kevin Fulton. "Greg (Johnstone) played with heart and passion - the things that seniors are supposed to do. It has been a privilege to coach him. He has been a great player and captain for us."

Dusan Milovanovic posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Horton at No. 2 singles and Doug Song continued the Eagles' streak with at 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 3 match.

Bryan, Charles Williams, and Lovell Medcalf rounded out the sweep with wins in the final three singles matches.

Morehead State improves to 7-6 overall and an even 2-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Eagles take on OVC rival Eastern Kentucky Tuesday in Richmond, Ky.

EIU swept the doubles point but Johnstone was able to answer with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

EIU rallied to win the next four singles matches to clinch the win, but Medcalf still managed to fight off Felipe Gama for a 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 vitory in the No. 6 match.

In doubles play Medcalf and Doug Song fought hard but fell 9-8 in the No. 3 match.

Morehead State will host OVC foe Murray State in the final home match of the season tomorrow at 11 a.m. Senior Greg Johnstone will be honored at the match.

"We responded after a tough loss to Tech. I am very proud of my kids, and we will work
very hard these next few days to prepare for Eastern Illinois and Murray," said MSU coach Kevin Fulton.

The Eagles came out strong against the Tigers when Greg Johnstone posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against Justin Hamm at No. 1 singles. Dusan Milovanovic continued the MSU domination at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Bradley Bryan and HJ Adams got their first singles conference victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots repectively.

Against WKU, Johnstone posted his second singles victory of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 slot. Bryan and Lovell Medcalf sealed the win with victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 slot.

"After playing in the cold against Tennessee State, we could have easily decieded not to
come and out and play with heart, and that is just not this team," said Fulton. "Lovell (Medcalf) has been so close to winning so many three set matches this spring, and he turned the corner today and put together the complete effort we have talked to him about in practice."

The Eagles improve to 1-1 in the conference and will host Eastern Illinois on March 27.

In women's action the Eagles earned three singles victories from Alexandra Rydberg, Madeleinne Antero, and Catherine Butts.

The MSU men and women took all three doubles matches in their respective competitions.

Morehead State will commence conference play on Friday when the Eagles entertain Tennessee Tech. The women's match will begin at 1 p.m. with the men's match immediately following the women's action.
